Storylines in Dallas

NORTHRIDGE, CA – The story of the trade that shook the sports world continues tonight, April 9, 2025. Luka Dončić returns to Dallas in opponents' gear for the first time in his career. Playoff implications? Play-In implications? Revenge games? What isn't this game giving the fans?

While this is Dončić's first return game to Dallas, that isn't the only storyline.

The Lakers and Luka Dončić are looking to solidify their place in the 3rd seed. The West has been so competitive with the Grizzlies, Clippers, Nuggets, and Golden State, tying with a 47-32 record. The teams have until April 13, when the NBA season ends, to try and climb the standings.

The Dallas Mavericks will try to stay in the 10th seed with a 38-41 record. They are in front of the 35-44 Phoenix Suns. The Mavs can officially clinch their Play-In today with a win against the Lakers or a Suns' loss.

The catalyst for Dallas was the "other" star included in the trade for Luka Dončić, Anthony Davis.

Davis was out injured when Dallas first played Los Angeles after the trade. According to StatMuse, the Lakers give up 7 points per game to centers. It will be interesting to see if Jaxson Hayes or Rui Hachimura can contain the Brow.

Storylines or not, the goal for each team and player is to win! Luka Dončić and Anthony Davis will have chips on their shoulders; let's see how they use them to their advantage.
