Liga Latina Basketball

NORTHRIDGE, CA – The Liga Latina Basketball league’s season has started. The league carries fourteen teams and plays in different high schools in the San Fernando Valley. They have the chance to win a championship when it's all said and done.

Adolfo Wences is the creator of the team Sunday hoops. Wences gives his insight on making the team.

He said, “It was pretty easy. I think the most difficult part is finding players that will be committed to playing all 12 games, but I think we got the right team. 2-0 so far, so I think it's good.”

The team is currently slated to play 12 games. If they make it to the playoffs, they will play more games for a chance to head to the finals.

Wences doesn’t just want to have fun. He expects to win.

“I want to win a championship with my guys,” Wences said. “Most of the guys we play with are my coworkers, close friends, and brother. So I want to make sure we win a championship or something.”

The games go on every Sunday and are randomly scheduled. They start at 8 am and until 4 pm. Some high schools play in our San Fernando, Grant, Valley Academy, and Northridge. Ethan Herzig is a player for the Sunday Hoops team. He goes into what basketball means to him. “I love it, you know. Playing with all my friends. That’s what it’s all about,” Herzig said. “That’s what basketball is all about, playing with your friends.”

Recreational sports can become a big part of somebody’s week. It can also help individuals improve their focus, motivation, and self-confidence. The sport can be a great place to meet new people.
